Delas Freres Les Reinages Gigondas 2015

Producer Information

Founded 160 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, Delas Freres today crafts world class wines from both northern and southern Rhône.

Tending the steep sloping vineyards, which total some 30 hectares of vines, the team adapt their growing practices to each plot of vines to let the terroir of the Rhône shine through in the wines.

Crafted by winemaker Jacques Grange (who is originally from Burgundy), the wines from Delas Freres epitomise finesse and elegance. Recent vintages from the vineyards of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Ventoux have bee lauded in the press for their intensity of flavour and excellent value.

Vineyards

The soils consist mainly of red clay and stony alluvium over hillsides or wide terraces. The climate is southern, hot and dry, with 2,800 hours average sunshine per year.

Winemaking

After crushing and de-stemming of the crop, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks during a period of 10 days. This is followed by 8 to 10 days maceration to improve extraction. After drawing off and pressing, the malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks.

The wine is racked and aerated to allow stabilisation of its ingredients. It is then kept in tanks, to preserve the freshness of its aromas, before being bottled after 12 months of ageing.

Tasting Note

The colour is a deep garnet red. In its youth it reveals black cherry aromas which will evolve towards notes of woodland and spices. On the palate, this is a warm, heady wine whose texture is well-rounded and silky. The finish is perfectly balanced.

Food Pairing

This wine goes particularly well with rich sauces, game and red meat dishes.

Press

91 Points Robert Parker
Scents of dry earth, peppery spice and baked cherries mark the nose of the 2015 Gigondas Les Reinages. It´s got a warmer, rounder profile than the Genets Vacqueryas, with supple tannins, a creamy mouthfeel and a long, silky-textured finish. Already delicious, it should drink well for the next 6-8 years.
