Domaine Anderson Chardonnay 2013

Producer Information

Domaine Anderson is nestled in the breathtaking, fog-cooled hillside and mountain terrain of Northern California’s Anderson Valley. Purchased by Champagne Louis Roederer in 2011, the Dach family vineyard prides itself on its limited production and classical wine making style. The cooling marine climate characteristic of this region provides ideal conditions for the cultivation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. All the wines wines are crafted with precision and care to express the uniqueness of the Anderson Valley terroir. The Chardonnay is made from grapes sourced exclusively from wholly-owned Anderson Valley vineyards, giving the team complete control over farming practices and stewardship of the land.

Vineyards

The 50 acres of Domaine Anderson vineyard wines span the Anderson Valley,
from the warmer, up-Valley town of Boonville to the cooler regions closer to the Mendocino coast. They reside on the valley floor, on gently sloped knolls, and on steep hillsides, and offer soils ranging from rocky, river gravels to the finest clay loams. The Chardonnay is produced from grapes sourced exclusively from Estate owned vineyards, allowing complete control over stewardship of the land.

Winemaking

The 2013 Domaine Anderson Estate Chardonnay comes from 100% Estate Chardonnay grapes, hand-picked from meticulously farmed blocks that span the diverse mesoclimates of the Anderson Valley. Before pressing, the grapes are macerated to extract structural and aromatic precursors. After drying, the wines begin slow, controlled malolactic fermentation. Battonage, the stirring of the lees, is carried out on specific barrels, as required. The wine is aged for 11 months in 20% new oak and blended by the winemaking team.

Tasting Note

Beautiful aromas of peach and quince with hints of white flowers and spicy oak. The wine is sleek and focussed as it expands into the mid-palate with a gentle, creamy richness. Its volume is restrained and enhanced by balanced acidity throughout. Flavours of sweet yellow apple and nectarine fill the mid palate. A bright minerality emerges as the wine finishes with flavours of tangerine and lemon zest. This wine is very elegant and exceptionally versatile.

Food Pairing

Delicious with fish dishes such as Turbot or Dover Sole with parsley beurre blanc and a medley of green vegetables.

Wine Enthusiast: 92 Points

“A vivid gold color distinguishes this grand wine at the first glance, and then lightly spicy aromas and a gorgeous combo of buttery and fruity flavors come forward. Generous flavors make it very compelling, while the texture that is at once lightly acidic and smooth completes the package.”
