Puligny-Montrachet “La Garenne” 2011

Producer Information

This Burgundian domaine has been a family estate for nearly 200 years. Erwan Faiveley, 7th generation, took the reins in 2006 from his father when he was only 25. They have earned their reputation as one of Burgundy’s finest and most trusted, with an unparalleled selection from the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise totalling over 120 hectares.

Vineyards

Puligny added the name of its most famous grand cru ‘Montrachet’ to its name in 1879. Puligny-Montrachet boasts exceptional terroirs for Chardonnay. The climat of “La Garenne” is situated just below that of “Champ Gain”, in the heights of the village.

Winemaking

Domaine Faiveley is responsible for all the work carried out in this vineyard and can therefore have total control over the quality of the grapes, as in the plots it owns. The hand picked harvest is transported with care to the cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges. The wine is then matured in oak barrels for 14-16 months, in nineteenth century vaulted cellars which provide ideal conditions for raising wines. The proportion of new oak, which is susceptible to variations according to the vintage, represents on average one third of the cuvée. The barrels come from high quality barrel makers and have been rigorously selected for their fine grain and light toast.

Vintage Information

The second in three small vintages in Burgundy. This was one of the earliest vintages on record. Unusually warm spring weather meant that grape skins were relatively thick and able to withstand the cool and et summer. The last two weeks of August, when the rain finally stopped after a month, saved the vintage and the resultant wines are fruity and lighter in style.

Tasting Note

The nose is very pleasant and charms with its both subtle and enchanting character. There are citrus, floral and dried fruit aromas. This wine is very full on the palate and strikes balance between smoothness and liveliness. A harmonious wine with long-lasting aromas and flavours.

Food Pairing

Foie Gras, Poached fish, Shellfish.
