Pio Cesare
Pio Cesare is a historic Piemonte wine producer founded in 1881 in the centre of Alba, in the Langhe. Now led by the fifth generation of the family, Federica Boffa Pio and Cesare Benvenuto, the estate is known for Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, Gavi, Moscato d’Asti and a growing range of single-vineyard wines. Pio Cesare offers one of the region’s most established and recognisable names.

Pio Cesare Gavi is produced from several hillside exposures in the Gavi area, each selected by the Pio Family for its distinct terroir composition. This multi-site approach brings balance, freshness and aromatic clarity to the wine, while preserving the identity of Cortese from one of Piedmont?s historic white wine appellations. The combination of different exposures supports ripe fruit, savoury complexity and mineral definition, giving a complete and precise expression of Gavi.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, fruit purity and varietal character. After fermentation, the wine remains in stainless steel for several months until bottling, usually in March. This restrained vinification approach protects the wine?s mineral profile and clean structure, while allowing the ripe fruit and savoury detail of the selected Gavi hillside sites to come through with clarity.
Tasting Note
Pio Cesare Gavi is savoury and spicy, with ripe, rich fruit aromas and a defined mineral character. The palate is dry, textured and well balanced, combining fruit depth with freshness and a saline mineral line. Medium-bodied for Gavi, it offers complexity without heaviness, with good structure and approachability. The finish is clean, persistent and mineral, showing both immediate drinking appeal and ageing potential.
Food Pairing
Pair with seafood risotto, grilled prawns, crab salad, lemon sole, vegetable antipasti, fresh pasta with herbs, goat?s cheese, roast chicken or light Mediterranean dishes.
