La Landonne is a single-vineyard Cote-Rotie from a named slope within the appellation, produced only in the best years and limited to no more than 2,500 bottles. The Cote-Rotie vineyard covers Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhone, Ampuis and Tupin-Semons on the right bank of the Rhone. The northern Cote Brune is formed from extremely steep terraced slopes of ferruginous mica schist covered with schist sand, while the Cote Blonde includes gneiss and granite.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at maximum maturity. Fermentation takes place in traditional open-topped concrete tanks after three days of cold maceration. Maceration and fermentation are carried out at controlled temperatures of 28-30C. Daily cap pushing down and pumping over are carried out for around ten days, with total vatting lasting up to 20 days. The wine is aged for 14 to 16 months in new or one-year-old oak casks, with regular topping up.
Tasting Note
La Landonne has deep ruby hues. The nose is complex and deep, showing ripe fruit, liquorice and roasted coffee. The palate is full, fleshy and generous, with dense, silky tannins and a broad structure. Rich and powerful, it remains composed, with dark-fruit depth and savoury complexity. The finish is long, layered and persistent, highlighting the wine?s considerable ageing potential.
Food Pairing
Pair with fine meats, roast beef, game birds, truffles, spicy stews, hare, venison or rich mushroom dishes. Open one to three hours before serving and decant after cellaring.
