Clos Boucher is a single-vineyard Condrieu produced from 100% Viognier. The grapes come exclusively from the Clos Boucher vineyard, which has southern exposure and lies close to Chateau Grillet. Condrieu covers seven communes across the Rhone, Loire and Ard?che on the right bank of the Rhone. The vineyards are planted on steep granite slopes rising above the river, too steep for mechanised picking. Produced only in the best years.
Vinification
After pressing and racking, the must is entirely fermented in new oak casks. The wine then ages on its lees for nearly six months. Periodic stirring is carried out until the end of ageing by rotating the casks using the Oxoline system. This barrel fermentation and lees work build texture, concentration and complexity, while the Viognier fruit from the south-facing granite slope provides aromatic richness and vineyard definition.
Tasting Note
Clos Boucher is light gold in colour, with deeper golden tinges. The nose is deep and expressive, showing exotic fruit and crystallised peach. The palate is highly concentrated, with intense ripe fruit flavours and a smooth texture. Subtle oak adds dimension and distinctive character without overwhelming the fruit. Full-bodied and layered, the wine finishes long, rich and refined, with clear gastronomic depth.
Food Pairing
Pair with asparagus, steamed fish in butter sauce, citrus-roasted chicken, lobster, scallops, roast poultry, creamy vegetable dishes or lightly spiced Asian-inspired cuisine.
