Read MoreViticulture
Les Reinages Gigondas is produced from vineyards entirely within the commune of Gigondas in the Vaucluse. The soils are mainly red clay and stony alluvium, found on hillsides and broad terraces. The climate is southern, hot and dry, with around 2,800 hours of sunshine per year and the Mistral as the prevailing wind.
Vinification
After crushing and destemming, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks over ten days. This is followed by eight to ten days of maceration to improve extraction and build structure. After drawing off and pressing, malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks. The wine is racked and aerated to stabilise its components, then kept in tanks to preserve aromatic freshness. Bottling takes place after 12 months of ageing.
Tasting Note
Les Reinages is deep garnet red in colour. In youth, the nose reveals black cherry aromas, which develop with time towards woodland and spice. The palate is warm and full, with a well-rounded, silky texture and ripe southern Rh?ne fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it combines generosity with balance and freshness from tank ageing. The finish is smooth, balanced and gently spiced.
Food Pairing
Pair with rich sauces, game, red meat, beef stew, roast lamb, grilled sausages, mushroom dishes, ratatouille or Provence-style cuisine.
