La Galopine is a 100% Viognier from Condrieu, sourced from four vineyard plots: Verin, Saint-Cyr-sur-le-Rh?ne, Chavanay and Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf. Condrieu covers seven communes across the Rhone, Loire and Ardeche on the right bank of the Rhone. The vineyards are planted on steep granite slopes above the river, where mechanised picking is not possible. The climate is moderately continental, with hot, dry summers and regular rainfall in other seasons.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-picked and transported to the winery in small boxes. Gentle pressing produces must that ferments at low temperatures of 16-18C in temperature-controlled vats, preserving Viognier’s aromatic complexity. Depending on the year, up to 20% of the crop may ferment in new oak casks. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is racked and aged on fine lees to improve richness and structure while preserving varietal aromas. Bottling takes place around mid-April.
Tasting Note
La Galopine is straw yellow in colour with green tinges. The nose is powerful and complex, showing violet, apricot, peach, honey and dried fruit. The palate is rich, full and highly seductive, with an unctuous texture and generous exotic fruit. Full-bodied yet balanced, it offers aromatic intensity without losing freshness. The finish is long, ripe and expressive, carrying Viognier?s floral and stone-fruit character.
Food Pairing
Pair with asparagus, steamed fish in butter sauce, lemon chicken, scallops, lobster, roast poultry, lightly spiced dishes or creamy vegetable preparations.
