Les Launes Red Crozes-Hermitage is a 100% Syrah from the largest Northern Rhone appellation, covering 11 communes in the Drome on the left bank of the Rhone. The soils vary from northern granite subsoils, continuing from the Hermitage hill, to southern fluvio-glacial alluvium with terraces of rolled stones from the former riverbed, mixed with loess. Hillside areas benefit from southerly exposure, and the Mistral is the prevailing wind.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimum ripeness and fully destemmed. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures of 28-32C in open concrete tanks. After devatting and pressing, malolactic fermentation is carried out in tanks. A small portion of the wine is aged in barrels to give a light oak touch to the final blend, while the rest remains in tanks to preserve fruit aromas. The wines are racked regularly for natural stabilisation.
Tasting Note
Les Launes Red is deep garnet red in colour. The nose is fruit-driven, with strong cassis and plum aromas, together with a touch of violet. The palate is ample and well rounded, showing ripe black fruit, freshness and sufficient tannic structure for ageing. Medium-bodied and approachable, it balances fruit generosity with classic Northern Rh?ne Syrah character. The finish is smooth, fresh and persistent.
Food Pairing
Pair with game, grilled meats, dishes cooked in sauce, roast lamb, sausages, mushroom pasta, charcuterie or bistro-style beef dishes.
