Domaine des Tourettes Red Hermitage is a 100% Syrah blend from three Hermitage terroirs: L’Ermite, Le Sabot and Les Bessards. The Hermitage vineyard stretches across Tain-l’Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage in the Drome. Soils combine granite, alluvial quaternary delta deposits and Pliocene marl, giving complexity across the appellation’s many recognised plots. Protected from northern winds, the south-facing slopes benefit from strong sun exposure.
Vinification
All grapes are hand-picked according to ripeness in each terroir. Fermentation takes place in traditional open-topped concrete tanks after two days of cool pre-fermentation skin contact. Maceration continues at controlled temperatures of 28-30C, with daily cap pushing down and pumping over for around ten days. Total vatting can last up to 20 days. After devatting and pressing, malolactic fermentation is carried out in oak barrels. Maturation takes place in French oak, with the proportion of new and one-wine barrels adjusted to the vintage.
