Now led by seventh-generation siblings Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the domaine is known for precise, age-worthy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, with an exceptional collection of Grand Cru, Premier Cru and monopole vineyard holdings.
Read MoreFaiveley ?chezeaux En Orveaux Grand Cru 2023 comes from a 0.83-hectare parcel in the En Orveaux subclimat, planted in 1950, 1956 and 1985. The vines have a southern exposure and grow on shallow soils on a slope. This terroir gives a generous, sun-influenced but lightly coloured wine, shaped by low clay content and a sloping site sensitive to vintage conditions. It produces Grand Cru Pinot Noir with silkiness, structure and ageing potential.
The wines are punched down daily to extract colour, tannins and aromas. After a 19-day vatting period, alcoholic fermentation is complete. The free-run wine is drawn off by gravity, and the marc is pressed gently to obtain pure press wine. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with 60% new oak and 40% second-fill barrels.
The 2023 vintage began with mild, dry winter weather, followed by rainfall in spring. Frost had limited impact, and warm June conditions led to rapid flowering and abundant fruit. Green harvesting reduced yields, while minor July hail caused limited damage. August?s varied temperatures helped ripening, and harvest took place during a heatwave. The grapes were healthy, ripe and aromatic.
Clear ruby in colour. The nose is enticing, with fruity and toasty notes. The palate is smooth and fruit-driven, with silky tannins and firm, well-balanced structure. Full-bodied yet elegant, it combines Grand Cru depth with freshness and polish. The finish is long, lingering and refined, with excellent ageing potential.
Pair with duck, roast lamb, venison, beef, game birds, truffle dishes, mushroom sauces, aged cheeses or fine dining Pinot Noir pairings.
