Champagne Louis Roederer
Champagne Louis Roederer was established in 1776 and is now run by the 7th generation of the family, Frédéric Rouzaud. With over 240 hectares of vineyards located exclusively in Grands and Premiers Crus villages, Champagne Louis Roederer is self-sufficient for approximately 70% of their non-vintage production and 100% of their vintage champagnes.
Pioneers in sustainable farming, Louis Roederer use organic practices in all their vineyards, and are certified organic in 135 hectares, with the remainder of the estate in conversion. The whole estate uses regenerative, renaissance viticulture and sustainable practices that are inspired by the concepts of permaculture. Working hand in hand with nature, respecting terroir and the pursuit of taste underpins everything they do.

100% Chardonnay, with 28% fermented in oak barrels. The Blanc de Blancs 2016 is drawn off at lower pressure in order to create a rounder, smoother effervescence. It was bottle aged for 5 years and then left to rest in the cellars for a further 6 months after disgorgement to attain perfect maturity. There is no malolactic fermentation. The dosage is 7g/l

The 2016 vintage was characterised by particularly marked weather variations: spring was cool, wet and relatively late whereas summer was warm and dry with a heatwave in late August followed by dry and sunny weather over the harvest period which was highly beneficial to the ripening of the grapes. The Chardonnays are outstanding showing a chiselled and saline character.

Tasting Note
A bouquet of white flowers (jasmine, orange blossom), lemon zest and wheat complemented by an impression of iodine freshness, sea spray, sea breeze and powdered chalk. A few smoky notes and a reductive, calcareous quality, reminiscent of grilled almonds, emerge after aeration.
The palate is creamy and caressing, revealing softness and finesse; coated velvet-like textures that quickly give way to fresh, marine, powdery and concentrated sensations. One has the impression of biting into a ripe, juicy fruit bursting with a lingering and mouth-watering zesty freshness. The finish is smooth, saline and stretches out like a shaft of sunshine, luminous and drying yet never brittle.
