Prima Pietra
Tenuta Prima Pietra is a coastal Tuscan estate in Riparbella, north of Bolgheri in Maremma, Italy, known for Toscana IGT red wine from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Set at 450 metres above sea level, it is recognised as the highest vineyard on the Tuscan coast, with sea breezes, strong light and day-night temperature variation shaping slow ripening and aromatic definition. Tenuta Prima Pietra’s range offers a polished Super Tuscan proposition with organic certification, limited vineyard scale and a clear coastal identity.

Fruit comes from Tenuta Prima Pietra, an 11-hectare certified organic estate on the Costa Toscana. The vineyard sits at 450 metres above sea level with a south to south-west exposure. Soils are rich in skeleton and ferrous clays, supporting structure, depth and mineral definition. Vines are trained by Guyot at an average density of 8,100 vines per hectare, with yields of 50q/ha.
Vinification
Each grape variety was vinified separately. Fermentation took place for 20 days in stainless steel tanks and concrete vats at 26 to 28C. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. For the first ten months, each variety matured separately; the blend was then assembled and returned to oak for a further eight months. This approach supports varietal precision, tannin integration and the layered structure expected of Prima Pietra.
Tasting Note
The nose is broad and rich, with fruit notes balanced by balsamic aromas and black pepper. The palate is direct, complete and enveloping, with a precise tannic texture and marked acidity supporting the structure. Full-bodied and polished, it combines aromatic depth with freshness and balance. The finish is long, structured and refined, showing clear potential for extended ageing.
Food Pairing
Pair with roast beef, grilled lamb, wild boar rag?, venison, mushroom dishes, aged Pecorino, braised short rib, truffle pasta or rich Mediterranean meat sauces.
