Prima Pietra
Tenuta Prima Pietra is a coastal Tuscan estate in Riparbella, north of Bolgheri in Maremma, Italy, known for Toscana IGT red wine from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Set at 450 metres above sea level, it is recognised as the highest vineyard on the Tuscan coast, with sea breezes, strong light and day-night temperature variation shaping slow ripening and aromatic definition. Tenuta Prima Pietra’s range offers a polished Super Tuscan proposition with organic certification, limited vineyard scale and a clear coastal identity.

Permassimo 2021 is produced from 100% Cabernet Franc grown at Tenuta Prima Pietra, an 11-hectare certified organic estate on the Costa Toscana. The vineyard sits at 450 metres above sea level with a south to south-west exposure. Soils are rich in skeleton and ferrous clays, supporting structure, depth and ageing potential. Vines are trained by Guyot at an average density of 8,100 vines per hectare, with yields of 50q/ha.
Vinification
Permassimo 2021 was vinified and aged for 20 days in concrete vats at 28?C, supporting extraction, structure and purity. The wine was then aged for 18 months in French oak barriques, 70% new, giving depth, texture and polish while preserving the character of Cabernet Franc from the Costa Toscana.
2021
The 2021 vintage saw vegetative growth slightly delayed by cool spring conditions. Summer was low in rainfall, but the rain was well distributed, allowing even veraison and steady maturation. The vines maintained good vitality, and ripening progressed in line with average timing. Harvest took place under a sunny, dry September, with Cabernet Franc picked on 1 October. The vintage is considered classic, producing wines with persuasive varietal aromas, excellent colour and a strong predisposition to refinement.
Tasting Note
Permassimo 2021 is balanced, elegant and complex, with ripe blackberry aromas, aromatic herbs, balsamic nuances and a hint of pepper. The palate is persistent and refined, supported by silky, velvety tannins and a clear structural line. Full-bodied yet composed, it combines varietal Cabernet Franc character with depth and freshness from the high-altitude Costa Toscana site. The finish is long, elegant and persistent, with exceptional ageing potential.
Food Pairing
