Ramos Pinto
Ramos Pinto was founded in 1880 by brothers Adriano and Antonio, bringing a new era of quality wine production to the Douro. Ramos Pinto’s long and distinguished history was further strengthened when the house became part of the Louis Roederer Family in 1990 who share the family history, focus on quality and investment in the future. Today, Adriano and Antonio’s descendants Jorge and Ana Rosas continue their pioneering spirit and search for the highest quality in the Douro as CEO and Master Blender respectively.

Quinta do Bom-Retiro Vintage is a Single Quinta Vintage Port produced only in exceptional years. Grapes are carefully selected from plots at Quinta do Bom Retiro, one of Ramos Pinto?s key Douro estates. The wine is shaped by the estate?s distinctive conditions, with steep vineyards, Douro heat, schist-influenced soils and carefully managed viticulture contributing concentration, freshness and fine structure. Its style is designed for both early drinking and long-term ageing.
Vinification
The grapes were fermented in traditional granite lagares and trodden by foot. Fermentation lasted between four and five days, producing excellent extract and concentration. This traditional Port vinification method supports colour, structure and aromatic intensity while preserving the freshness and elegance associated with Quinta do Bom Retiro. The result is a refined Single Quinta Vintage Port with depth, fine tannins and clear ageing potential.
2023
The 2023 growing cycle began early, supported by ample soil water after a rainy winter and high early-spring temperatures. Weather remained stable and dry until late May, before heavy storms in early June. July and August were extremely dry and hot. Harvest at Quinta do Bom Retiro ran from 28 August to 22 September. Early picking of selected Touriga Francesa plots proved strategic, preserving optimum fruit condition before forecast weather instability.
Tasting Note
The wine is bright ruby red with blue tinges. The nose centres on raspberry, cherry and black plum, lifted by violet petals, cedar, mineral notes and a delicate talc-like nuance. Fresh spice, aniseed and cardamom add complexity. The palate is elegant and delicate in profile, with very fine tannins, fresh fruit and a velvety texture. The finish is harmonious, flavourful and persistent.
Food Pairing
Pair after dinner with Serra da Estrela, Gorgonzola, Stilton, Cabrales, blue-veined cheeses, dark chocolate tart, cherry desserts or mature hard cheeses.
