Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2024 Vintage Release
We are pleased to announce the release of Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2024. Stock will be available to the UK trade exclusively through MMD in October.
Produced by the iconic Ornellaia estate in Bolgheri, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is one of Italy’s most highly regarded second wines. Crafted from the same varieties, with the same attention to detail in both vineyard and cellar as Ornellaia itself, it offers the hallmarks of the estate’s flagship wine in a more youthful, approachable expression.
The 2024 vintage is made from 49% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Petit Verdot and 13% Cabernet Franc, showing signature elegance, freshness and balance. With its poise between power and flow, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2024 is already engaging and ready to enjoy, while also offering the structure to evolve with time.

A Strong Opportunity for the UK Trade
For restaurants, hotels, fine wine merchants and premium retailers, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia holds a distinctive place on the list.
It carries the reputation and pedigree of Ornellaia, one of Bolgheri’s most recognised estates, while offering a more accessible route into the estate’s style. For the on-trade, it presents a strong opportunity for premium listings, by-the-glass placements via Coravin, tasting menus and Italian-focused wine pairings. For independent merchants and fine wine specialists, it offers immediate recognition for collectors and enthusiasts, with the appeal of a high-quality release from a globally respected estate.
Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia also works particularly well in a trading environment where customers are looking for wines with provenance, quality and a clear story behind them. It brings the prestige of Bolgheri, the reassurance of the Ornellaia name and the approachability needed for confident recommendation across both hospitality and retail.
The 2024 Vintage
The 2024 growing season began early, following a mild and rainy start to the year that helped build excellent water reserves in the vineyards. Continued rainfall through spring supported healthy vine development, while also requiring careful and attentive vineyard management.
From late June, warm and sunny weather brought a decisive change. Vegetative growth slowed at an ideal moment ahead of véraison, encouraging concentration and aromatic development. Localised storms in mid-August then brought timely relief, supporting the final phase of ripening.
Harvest began in early September, accompanied by an alternation of sunny, cool and occasionally rainy days. This allowed the grapes to reach full maturity while retaining the freshness and balance that define the vintage.
The resulting wine shows the hallmarks of 2024: vibrant freshness, refined concentration and aromatic intensity, underpinned by elegance and poise. Awarded 94 points by James Suckling’s Aldo Fiordelli, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2024 has been praised for its spice, restrained dark fruit, refreshing acidity and velvety tannins.
Precision from Vineyard to Cellar
The grapes were hand-harvested in 15 kg crates, with bunches carefully selected by hand on a double sorting table before and after destemming, followed by optical sorting and gentle pressing.
Each variety and parcel was vinified separately. Alcoholic fermentation took place partly in stainless steel and partly in concrete tanks at controlled temperatures, followed by maceration. Malolactic fermentation occurred partly in stainless steel and partly in barriques.
The wine was then aged for around 15 months in barriques, with 30% new oak and 70% second- and third-use barrels. After the first eight months, the final blend was assembled and returned to barriques for a further seven months, before resting in bottle for six months prior to release.
