We are delighted to announce that the Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato 2012 has won the Tre Bicchieri 2017 Award in Gambero Rosso Magazine!
Gambero Rosso, a prestigious Italian food and wine magazine, has been reviewing wine since 1986! Regarded as one of the most influential wine magazines in Italy, Gambero Rosso does not hand out the Tre Bicchieri Award lightly.
The Barolo Ornato 2012 was produced from grapes grown exclusively on the ‘Ornato’ vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the best vineyards in the Barolo area. In 1985, Pio Cesare decided to select a small quantity of Nebbiolo from three different plots within the vineyard to create a Barolo that reflects the characteristics of Serralunga soil. The soil here is poor and compact, resulting in a wine of great structure and ageing potential. “Ornato” is only produced in outstanding years.
