Champagne Deutz Amour de Deutz 2011
Champagne Deutz is a historic Champagne House founded in Aÿ in 1838, known for refined sparkling wines from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Part of the Roederer Collection since 1993, Deutz produces Champagne from leading terroirs across Aÿ, the Vallée de la Marne, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. Its range includes Deutz Brut Classic, Deutz Rosé, Amour de Deutz, William Deutz and single-vineyard Hommage à William Deutz cuvées.
Champagne Deutz was founded in 1838 by William Deutz, a Prussian wine merchant from Aachen, and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann. The two founders were drawn to Aÿ, one of Champagne’s most important historic villages, and built a house dedicated to expressing the region’s finest terroirs through wines of precision and refinement.
Aÿ remains central to the identity of Deutz. The house, its gardens, cellars and neighbouring vineyards form a closely connected estate, giving Champagne Deutz a strong sense of place. The village is also significant because it is classified 100% Grand Cru for both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, a rare distinction in Champagne.
In 1993, Champagne Deutz joined the Roederer Collection by Champagne Louis Roederer. This marked a new phase of development while preserving Deutz’s own identity, independence of style and long-standing Champagne heritage.
Since 2022, Cellar Master Caroline Latrive has led the winemaking direction, bringing a renewed creative energy while respecting the house style. Marc Hoellinger became CEO of Deutz and Delas Frères in 2023, continuing the house’s focus on excellence, exclusivity and long-term partner relationships.

Deutz is based in Aÿ, at the meeting point of several great Champagne areas. From this position, the house works with fruit from the Vallée de la Marne, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. This gives Deutz access to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier from a broad range of complementary terroirs.
The house cultivates 12 hectares of its own vines within a wider 39-hectare vineyard holding. It also works with long-standing partner growers, sourcing grapes within a 20-kilometre radius of Aÿ. Around 70% of its grape supply comes from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, an unusually high proportion given that these represent only a minority of Champagne’s vineyard area.
The Deutz vineyard approach is based on precision, patience and respect for site. Each plot is monitored according to its own rhythm, and harvest timing is adapted to maturity rather than fixed by schedule. This is especially important for a house whose style depends on balance between freshness, aromatic clarity and texture.
The estate has held VDC and HVE3 certifications since 2015 and began converting its owned vineyards to organic growing in 2023, aiming to obtain the organic certification for the Deutz-owned vineyards in 2026. Deutz also supports partner growers with traceability tools and technical guidance for sustainable viticulture.
The Deutz style is shaped by meticulous vinification and blending. Wines are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats to preserve purity of fruit, with each cru and grape variety handled separately. The house works with more than 220 vats and 90 individually vinified crus, giving the cellar master a wide palette for blending.
Fermentation takes place slowly at around 15°C, supporting aromatic precision and freshness. Blending is carried out later than in many Champagne houses, allowing the base wines time to reveal their character before the final composition is decided.
Ageing is central to the Deutz identity. The wines mature in historic chalk cellars around 30 metres underground, where steady natural conditions support finesse and balance. The house also uses specially selected narrower bottle-neck rings, designed to encourage ageing conditions closer to those of a magnum.
Deutz Brut Classic is the first cuvée created each year and acts as the clearest expression of the house style. Prestige cuvées such as Amour de Deutz, William Deutz and Hommage à William Deutz show a more specific interpretation of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and individual Aÿ terroirs.
Champagne Deutz produces white and rosé Champagne. The house style is precise, refined and balanced, with fine bubbles, crystalline freshness, silky texture and a polished aromatic profile. Brut Classic combines Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with reserve wines to achieve consistency, freshness and depth.
Deutz Brut Rosé is built around Grand Cru and Premier Cru fruit, with Pinot Noir from Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ supported by Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Amour de Deutz is a 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs prestige cuvée, while William Deutz highlights the depth and refinement of Pinot Noir-led Champagne. The Hommage à William Deutz cuvées explore single-vineyard Aÿ expressions, including La Côte Glacière and Meurtet.
Champagne Deutz offers a complete premium Champagne range with a point of difference beyond the most familiar names. Brut Classic and Brut Rosé support by-the-glass, aperitif and event listings, while the vintage, Blanc de Blancs, Amour de Deutz, William Deutz and Hommage cuvées add depth for fine dining, independent retail, collector lists and prestige Champagne programmes.
