Barr-Eden Estate
Barr-Eden Estate is a boutique fine wine estate on Mengler’s Hill, straddling the Barossa and Eden valleys in South Australia. Its 130 acres rise from 465 to 545 metres above sea level, where altitude, higher rainfall and a later growing season create conditions for slow, even ripening and distinctive Rhône-varietal wines.

Barr-Eden Dreams of Gold Shiraz 2024 comes from vines planted in 1997 and 2013. The grapes were hand-picked early in the morning on 9 April, preserving freshness and aromatic detail. As part of Barr-Eden’s high-altitude vineyard setting, the wine reflects the estate’s focus on elegant, lifted Shiraz with balance and length. The combination of vine age, careful picking and altitude supports bright red-fruit character, freshness and a refined Eden Valley profile.
Vinification
The wine fermented in a four-tonne container and remained on skins for 20 days before being pressed in a small basket press. A portion of the press wine was blended back with the free-run wine to add extra complexity and structure. The wine was aged in three and four-year-old French oak puncheons and hogsheads, contributing texture and subtle oak integration without dominating the fruit.
Tasting Note
The wine shows vibrant red-fruit character, mint and eucalyptus aromas. These lifted notes carry through to the palate, complementing the ripe and supple tannins. Full-bodied and refined, it captures the seductive, perfumed side of Eden Valley Shiraz.
Food Pairing
Pair with grilled lamb cutlets, roast chicken, moussaka and lentil dishes.
