Ramos Pinto
Ramos Pinto was founded in 1880 by brothers Adriano and Antonio, bringing a new era of quality wine production to the Douro. Ramos Pinto’s long and distinguished history was further strengthened when the house became part of the Louis Roederer Family in 1990 who share the family history, focus on quality and investment in the future. Today, Adriano and Antonio’s descendants Jorge and Ana Rosas continue their pioneering spirit and search for the highest quality in the Douro as CEO and Master Blender respectively.
Read MoreViticulture
Quinta de Ervamoira is a landmark estate in modern Douro viticulture. In the 1970s, five large plots were planted separately with studied and selected grape varieties, positioned vertically up the hillside. The estate is farmed with respect for biodiversity and without residual herbicides. For Quinta de Ervamoira DOC Douro, Ramos Pinto selects small plots from chosen parcels, which are harvested and vinified with care. The wine is bottled only in years where the desired quality and personality are clear.
Vinification
Vinification begins with ongoing vineyard visits and grape tastings to determine the best harvest period for each selected plot. Grapes are picked by hand by an experienced team. Fermentation takes place fully and gently in traditional granite lagares. The wine is aged in wood for around 18 months: 55% in small oak vats, 20% in new casks and 25% in one-wine casks. After bottling, it ages for a further year in bottle.
2021
The 2021 wine year was marked by a notably fresh summer. Strong soil water reserves and high temperatures at the start of spring encouraged a quick start to the vegetative cycle. Development progressed without major setbacks, as water stress was not excessive and temperatures remained mild until harvest. These conditions allowed long, safe maturation, producing musts with optimum acidity, soft tannins and fine aromas. The result is a fresher, more elegant expression of Quinta de Ervamoira.
Tasting Note
The wine is bright red in colour. The nose is very fresh, elegant and complex, with red berries, orange blossom, pepper and roasting notes. The palate brings fruit, freshness and structure into precise harmony, reflecting the personality of Quinta de Ervamoira. Medium to full-bodied, it has refined tannins, lively acidity and a polished texture. The finish is long, balanced and expressive, with fruit, spice and freshness carrying through.
Food Pairing
Pair with grilled red meat, roast kid, wild boar braised with chestnuts, roast cod, venison, mushroom dishes, lamb with herbs or mature cheeses.
