Louis Roederer International Wine Writers launches new website

We are delighted to announce the launch of our new-look website for the 11^th annual Louis Roederer International Wine Writers Awards.

The website was redesigned not only to reflect the new packaging launched in 2014, but also to facilitate the entry process for candidates.

As the LRIWWA enter their second decade, we are proud to announce the addition of a new category – the Pio Cesare Food & Wine Writers Award. The objective of the Award is to celebrate all those who write about the natural and harmonious marriage of good food with great wine.

Judges

One of the key features of the LRIWWAs is the quality of the judges it secures, and this year is no different, bringing together five key figures in the industry with a wealth of experience and expertise behind each of them.

The ceremony will take place once again in The prestigious Royal Academy of Art, in 6 Burglington Gardens. The event will also mark the closure of 6 Burlington Gardens before its renovation process due for completion in time for the Academy’s 250^th Anniversary in 2018.

La Comtesse de Pazo Barrantes in Decanter’s top 6

La Comtesse de Pazo Barrantes 2011 has found it’s way into John Stimpfig’s top six wines from this year’s Wines of Spain tasting.

Awarding the wine an impressive 91 points, John describes it as:

“Oak aged Albarinho might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but this was right on message for my palate. Murrieta are best known in Rioja, but this comes from its 12 hectare estate in Rias Baixas’ Salnes Valley. I picked out pear, citrus and orchard fruits together with cream and honeysuckle. Also lovely richness, vibrancy and density.”

In a recent tasting Robert Parker has awarded Duas Quintas Reserva 2013 a very respectable 91 points:

” With a hint of herbs early on, it has a lively feel. The oak is there, but it is handled exceptionally well. With a mid-palate that projects a feeling of concentration and solidity.”

Zisola Petit Verdot: a hit with James Suckling

We are pleased to report that James Suckling awards the latest edition to the Zisola range, the ‘Effe Emme’ Petit Verdot, 93 points in a recent article.

He writes “Aromas of mineral, flower such as lavender and chalk. Some orange peel and almond. Full body with fine tannins and a pretty, earthy, light chocolate and berry finish…Savoury and juicy. Made from head-pruned vines. 4,500 bottles made.”

MMD Annual Portfolio Tasting 2015

Thank you to everyone who attended our Annual Portfolio Tasting on 27^th January at the Institute of Directors. We were thrilled to see so many people there over the course of the day to sample over 100 wines across 14 tables.

The tasting offered a great opportunity to try some old favourites, as well as the new additions to the MMD range – including the ‘Brut Nature’ 2006 from Champagne Louis Roederer, the impressive ‘Effe Emme’ Petit Verdot from the Mazzei family’s Sicilian estate, Zisola and the wines from Rapaura Springs, Marlborough, the latest addition to our portfolio.

We were also proud to unveil the new 2010 Marques de Murrieta’s Capellania and 2010 Castiglion del Bosco ‘Brunello di Montalcino’ both of which were extremely well received.

Guests who made it to the Ramos Pinto stand will also have been treated to Godiva Speculoos truffles, selected purposefully to complement the award-winning 20 Year Old Tawny Port.
