Rapaura Springs Pinot Noir 2013

Producer Information

Rapaura Springs (pronounced Ra-para) is a unique oasis in the dry Marlborough landscape with natural underground springs providing a life source for the vines. This pure water enables the vineyards to produce outstanding fruit with minimal intervention. The logo represents springs water flowing from their stony aquifer.

Vineyards

Fruit was sourced from select vineyards in Marlborough, enabling the capture of a broad representation of flavours. The fruit was hand selected in small parcels over a number of days, allowing each parcel to be harvested at optimum levels of ripeness and flavour development.

Winemaking

At the winery, a period of cold soaking extracted the fruit flavours and was followed by natural fermentation using wild yeast to build complexity. Tannin management was achieved by gentle plunging of the cap. The wine was pressed promptly after the end of fermentation, then matured in new and seasoned French oak barriques for nine months.

Vintage Information

The grapes were hand picked between 9th-16th April 2013.

Tasting Note

Succulent dark cherry and raspberry fruit aromas combine with a hint of underlying spicy oak on the nose. The palate consists of finely balanced ripe tannins, oak and sweet berry fruits. Excellent structure, the wine finishes smooth and elegant.

Food Pairing

The complex character of this wine makes it a great match for a broad range of meats and tomato based pasta dishes.
