Tommasi ‘Le Fornaci’ Lugana DOC 2020

Producer Information

Founded by Giacomo Tommasi in 1902, Tommasi has grown to be the largest family-owned vineyard estate in the Valpolicella Classica, owning 105 hectares and an additional 15 hectares in the Lugana DOC. Tommasi is located in Pedemonte in the heart of the historic ‘Classico’ region, from which the best quality wines are produced. The estate is owned and managed by the fourth generation of the Tommasi family, with six family members working together in harmony. Pierangelo manages the UK market, while winemaker, Giancarlo prefers to stay close the vineyards and winery.

Vineyards

The Fornaci Estate, located near Sirmione, now stretches over 45 hectares in total. The estate is comprised of three main vineyards: the largest plot sits by Lake Garda, and two further inland, all in Sirmione. The area is favoured by the mild climate of nearby Lake Garda. The soil consists of layers of fine sediments such as clay, limestone and resulting in a beautifully balanced wine. The vines are Guyot trained at a density of 6,500 vines per hectare.

Winemaking

Lugana Le Fornaci is obtained from an accurate harvest of the grapes, followed by slow fermentation at controlled temperature (14 ° / 18 °) and stripping by natural sedimentation,
Ageing for about 3 months on lees and fine yeasts followed by ageing in steel.

Tasting Note

Pale, bright yellow in colour, this wine has delicious perfumes of tropical fruit and an appetising spicy character. Medium-bodied with attractive minerality, citrus notes and a zingy, crisp finish.

Food Pairing

Serve with antipasti platters, grilled fish or fish pie or even roast chicken.
