Last night saw the annual Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships Awards hosted at Merchant Taylors’ Hall. Widely perceived as the most comprehensive and rigorous international sparkling wine competition, the awards paid homage to the extraordinary quality being attained by international producers in this category.
2019 saw 8 Golds and 1 silver awarded to Champagne Louis Roederer, as well as gold for Roederer Estate, their Californian property. In addition the Brut Vintage 2012 in magnum received the title World Champion Classic Brut Vintage Blend 2019 and Best Non-Deluxe Champagne. The Cristal Rosé Vintotheque 1995 was awarded World Champion Library Vintage 2019.
Perhaps the most exciting award for Champagne Louis Roederer was the recognition of the pioneering work of Chef de Cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon in his tireless commitment to excellence when he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon has won an astonishing 50 gold medals at the CSWWC and, up to 2018, no fewer than 22 Best in Class and 17 trophies, including the Supreme World Champion trophy an unprecedented three times. We believe that’s enough achievement for several lifetimes!”
