Domaines Ott Clos Mireille Cœur de Grain Rosé Côtes De Provence 2018

Producer Information

Domaines Ott was founded in 1912 by Marcel Ott, an agricultural engineer from Alsace who dreamed of establishing a great wine estate near the Mediterranean. Today, the wineries are owned and managed by Champagne Louis Roederer and produce some of the world’s most prestigious wines, but particularly rosé wines, made at distinctively different estates in Bandol and Côtes de Provence appellations.

Vineyards

This very ancient land is characterised by a combination of schists and clays, and by an absence of limestone. The vineyard’s proximity to the sea explains the inimitable character of the wines produced at Clos Mireille. The microclimate and sea spray create the ideal conditions for the production of extremely rare wines.

Winemaking

The grapes are all hand picked and go through a stringent selective sorting, followed by an extremely delicate pressing process. Fermentation is done in thermo-regulated vats followed by ageing in oak casks for six to eight months.

Vintage Information

2018 was a challenging vintage due to frosts, hail, summer storms and lack of wind. The viticultural team at Domaines Ott* had to remain vigilant at all times in order to deal with these complications efficiently and ensure that the growing cycle was able to continue in the right conditions. On tasting the fruit, although there were less sugars than 2017, there was perfect balance. The team was extremely proud of the excellent yields across all of the vineyards. Vinification gave rise to a fruity, ethereal and perfectly balanced vintage.

Vinous Media: 94 POINTS
August 15, 2019

“Pale orange-pink. Highly expressive strawberry, nectarine, honeydew and lavender scents, along with building floral, orange zest and salty mineral qualities. Silky and focused on the palate, offering densely packed citrus and pit fruit and red berry flavors that unfurl on the back half. Finishes dry and minerally, displaying superb persistence and resonating floral and mineral notes.”

Wine & Spirits: 94 POINTS

“It tastes vividly of sea spray, powered by Meyer lemon-like acidity, while herbal notes play at the edges, like an echo of the scrub that grows between the vines. For all its power, this is…a rosé that demands close attention over a leisurely fish dinner.”

Decanter: 93 POINTS

“This wine has an almost creamy-white colour with abundant creamy white peach fruit flavours supported by a firm, mineral structure with an almost saline austerity reflecting the vineyard’s proximity to the sea and the local schist soil. Despite coming from one of the hottest regions, it has long, fresh acidity.”

Robert Parker: 91 POINTS

“The 2018 Cotes de Provence Rose Clos Mireille is perfumed and floral, with hints of orange blossom joining citrus and melon. A blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle and Syrah, it’s light to medium-bodied, fresh and zesty, with a long, lime-riddled finish.”
