Delas Freres Clos Boucher Condrieu 2018

Producer Information

Founded 160 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, Delas Freres today crafts world class wines from both northern and southern Rhône.

Tending the steep sloping vineyards, which total some 30 hectares of vines, the team adapt their growing practices to each plot of vines to let the terroir of the Rhône shine through in the wines.
Crafted by winemaker Jacques Grange (who is originally from Burgundy), the wines from Delas Freres epitomise finesse and elegance. Recent vintages from the vineyards of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Ventoux have bee lauded in the press for their intensity of flavour and excellent value.

Granite slopes rise above the river – the lie of the land is too steep to allow any mechanized picking.

The climate is moderately continental, hot and dry in summer, with regular rainfall during the other seasons.

After pressing and racking, the must is entirely fermented in new oak casks.

The wine is then left to age on its lees for nearly six months. It undergoes periodic stirring until the end of the ageing by rotation of the casks.

Vintage Information

A hot and dry vintage in the Rhone with a healthy and ripe crop harvested with plenty of fruit and texture to the finished wines.

Tasting Note

Condrieu “Clos Boucher” is light gold in colour, with some deeper golden tinges. Its nose shows deep aromas that are reminiscent of exotic fruit and crystallised peach. This is a very concentrated wine which produces a lots of intense, ripe flavours on the palate. Its smooth texture is enhanced by a subtle touch of oak.

Food Pairing

Asparagus, steamed fish in a butter sauce, citrus cooked chicken.

“Slightly deeper and richer, the 2017 Condrieu Clos Boucher offers beautiful notes of tangerine, honeyed limes, citrus, and brioche. It’s another fresher, elegant Condrieu that has bright acidity, medium body, and sensational balance. It’s as drinkable as they come and one of the gems in the vintage.”

“High-pitched notes of green plum, green almond, white peach and honeysuckle are laced with a flash of fennel, contrasted by a plump, rounded texture. Drink now through 2021.” 92-93 POINTS

“Attractive, ripe white with oranges and apricots, as well as gingery pastry and a citrus, lemon edge. The palate has good flesh with a bright core of acidity. Long, juicy, succulent and concentrated. Superb. Barrel sample.”
