Founded 160 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, Delas Freres today crafts world class wines from both northern and southern Rhône.
Tending the steep sloping vineyards, which total some 30 hectares of vines, the team adapt their growing practices to each plot of vines to let the terroir of the Rhône shine through in the wines.
Crafted by winemaker Jacques Grange, the wines from Delas Freres epitomise finesse and elegance. Recent vintages from the vineyards of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Ventoux have bee lauded in the press for their intensity of flavour and excellent value.
Stretching out along the left bank of the Rhône river, around the limestone outcrop of the Mount Ventoux, the appellation covers an area of 6,400 hectares/ 15,808 acres. It shares the same pedological, climate and grape varieties as its neighbouring Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards.
The Grenache grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats. Daily pumping over allows gentle extraction of the phenolic components. The Syrah is sometimes left on the stems in order to fully express its characteristic fruit aromas.
The wine is blended before going into stainless steel vats in an air-conditioned winery. There they can spend between 6-8 months ageing before being bottled.
2017 was one of the earliest harvests on record. A year for excellent quality but much smaller harvests across the region. Claire Darnaud reported ‘the perfect vintage with amazing weather conditions: warm and sunny since April, with just a few rainfalls at exactly the time when the vines were starting to show stress… basically no disease pressure, weeds have been growing very little and spraying, as well ploughing the soils, could be kept to a minimum… come harvest time, the foliage was absolutely perfect – green and healthy.’
Deep ruby red in colour with a berry fruit bouquet. The wine highlights the full aromatic power of these two noble grape varieties whilest retaining excellent freshness.
"Provencale" stews, cold cuts, mixed grills and poultry dishes.
The Wine Advocate: 90 POINTS

“Delas has done a good job with their Ventoux over the years, and the 2017 Ventoux is perhaps their best yet. It offers hints of concrete dust or crushed stone layered over subtle cherry aromas. The unoaked 80-20 blend of Grenache and Syrah is medium-bodied, with a velvety feel and dried spices and Bing cherries on the silky finish. At the suggested retail of $11, it’s a screaming bargain.”
