Founded 185 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, Delas Freres today crafts world class wines from both northern and southern Rhône.
Tending the steep sloping vineyards, which total some 30 hectares of vines, the team adapt their growing practices to each plot of vines to let the terroir of the Rhône shine through in the wines.
Crafted by winemaker Jacques Grange, the wines from Delas Freres epitomise finesse and elegance. Recent vintages from the vineyards of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Ventoux have bee lauded in the press for their intensity of flavour and excellent value.
Stretching out along the left bank of the Rhône river, around the limestone outcrop of the Mount Ventoux, the appellation covers an area of 6,400 hectares/ 15,808 acres. It shares the same pedological, climate and grape varieties as its neighbouring Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards.
The Grenache grapes undergo traditional winemaking in stainless steel vats. Daily pumping over allows gentle extraction of the phenolic components. The Syrah is sometimes not destemmed in order to fully express the power of the fruit aromas from this variety.
When the malolactic fermentation has been completed, the wines are blended before going into stainless steel vats in the air-conditioned winery. There, they can spend between 6 to 8 months before the final bottling takes place.
Its colour is a deep ruby red, showing garnet reflections while young. With its predominately berry-fruit bouquet, this wine shows the full aromatic power of these two noble grape varieties whilst retaining the freshness imparted by well-controlled wine making.
"Provençale" stews, cold cuts, mixed-grills, Wildfowl.
