This Burgundian domaine has been a family estate for nearly 200 years. Erwan Faiveley, 7th generation, took the reins in 2006 from his father when he was only 25. They have earned their reputation as one of Burgundy’s finest and most trusted, with an unparalleled selection from the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise totalling over 120 hectares.
Pouilly-Fuissé is the appellation for the finest white wines of the Maconnais region in southern Burgundy. They are produced exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown in the communes of Chaintre, Fuisse, Solutre-Pouilly and Vergisson. The Pouilly-Fuissé appellation officially dates back to September 1936, although the boundaries were drawn up as early as December 1922. It currently covers around 2,000 acres (800ha) of hillside vineyards, planted on limestone rich clay soils over a granitic base. There is no Premier Cru system within the appellation.
This wine comes from carefully selected plots which are nicely spread out over this appellation. Faiveley regularly carry out quality checks on each plot they have reserved allowing them assurance of the quality of the grapes and the professionalism of the producers they are in partnership with. The wine is then aged on its fine lees for 8-10 months in the cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges, enabling it to acquire a certain suppleness and more complex aromas.
The climatic conditions of 2012 were beneficial to the vintage: intense cold in February, a cool spring and bright sunshine in August. It offers wines that are very concentrated, well-balanced and particularly tasty.
A brilliant pale yellow colour. The nose is fresh and elegant with varied white flower and citrus fruit aromas. This wine is very expressive and round on the palate giving a nice sensation of freshness. It has beautiful liveliness and very long-lasting aromas which make it a very pleasurable fine wine.
