MMD Annual Portfolio Tasting 2015

Thank you to everyone who attended our Annual Portfolio Tasting on 27th January at the Institute of Directors. We were thrilled to see so many people there over the course of the day to sample over 100 wines across 14 tables.

The tasting offered a great opportunity to try some old favourites, as well as the new additions to the MMD range – including the ‘Brut Nature’ 2006 from Champagne Louis Roederer, the impressive ‘Effe Emme’ Petit Verdot from the Mazzei family’s Sicilian estate, Zisola and the wines from Rapaura Springs, Marlborough, the latest addition to our portfolio.

We were also proud to unveil the new 2010 Marques de Murrieta’s Capellania and 2010 Castiglion del Bosco ‘Brunello di Montalcino’ both of which were extremely well received.

Guests who made it to the Ramos Pinto stand will also have been treated to Godiva Speculoos truffles, selected purposefully to complement the award-winning 20 Year Old Tawny Port.

Matthew Jukes on Domaines Ott

Matthew Jukes recently tasted the 2013 Clos Mireille Rose from Domaines Ott and here’s what he thought:

“Our pick from the latest Ott releases is this pale, shimmering Clos Mireille. Already looking sensational in the glass, this beautiful Provençal rosé delivers heart-achingly pretty flavours with a core of weight and purpose that we all adore in this style of wine. It means that this delicate-looking sprite can tackle a world of crustacea and sushi, but not think twice about man-handling rare roast beef salad. And that is the trick – from canapés, via fish and chicken, to main meatier courses this is the one-wine-fits-all-occasions heroine and that is why she is such an enviable creation.”

2014 Harvest at Ramos Pinto

Described as a year of climatic twists, the weather posed challenges throughout the year but overall the wines are fresh, fruity and expressive after an earlier harvest than normal for Ramos Pinto.

Port
Touriga Nacional was without a doubt the best variety in both the Douro Superior and Cima Corgo, while the white ports are intensely concentrated and fruit forward.

Wine
White wines are expressive and vibrant, with good acidity and maturation. Red wines are more expressive and fruit forward than 2013.
